re: gleeful

here's another unexpected addition to the firsts in my life -- it has been half an hour since chris colfer wrapped up his 'live' book-promoted webchat and i was very fortunate to have witnessed it, all sixty minutes (approximately) and all.

for every other time, i've only heard of a celebrity-headed webchat through its transcripts or last announcements, and went, "[insert expletive here], i just missed it by x amount of days." but this time, it was half an hour past midnight and i was checking twitter when i spotted chris' tweet. had it not been for his tweet, i would've missed it altogether.

how was my first time participating in such an event, albeit merely spectating instead of writing? surreal, in a nutshell. to be able to connect (digitally) with someone i admired to some degree and to witness his mannerisms and how he projected himself up close, in real-time, was almost beyond belief. like, just imagine, halfway around the globe, he's sitting in a room speaking through the computer to us, the faceless audience, right now at this moment and time and not through some recorded videoclip that already happened in the past... whoa.

i guess you could argue that this exact thing happens through skype but usually with people we term as 'celebrities', i accord some kind of distance to them because after all, they're people whose works i admire and whose personal, day-to-day interactions i have no real idea of, unlike the friends or family that i video chat with from time to time.

admittedly though, this being my first time, i was unprepared. i attempted but failed to log in for fifteen minutes using my third-party account and in the end, had to settle for a fresh registration under a to-be-confirmed account (which allowed me to log in but did not allow me to comment, or else i would've posted at least a question for chris, for sure).

overall, the chat organisers did an okay job, because i got a relatively high quality video feed of chris and there were no lags. the only sucky part was at the last five minutes where either a frozen image of chris remained or a live video feed from a fan asking a question was shown instead...because the next thing i knew, there was a text chat from the organisers thanking the audience for sitting in -- what an abrupt ending.

this was worst than when we all momentarily got cut off somewhere towards the end before the chat connection resumed (at least i didn't miss anything there). on the plus side, i got to rewind the taped session almost immediately and scroll back to the final five minutes (but then again, it lost its novelty because i never really got to witness him signing off in real time).

oh, and my kurt hummel-inspired haircut finally seems to have grown into shape -- less of a botched operation and more like it was supposed to look like.

it's hard to tell from the online excerpt as to whether i'll love the land of stories, but the premise sounds interesting and i'll definitely look out for it when it hits the shelves here. i'm much more stoked about struck by lightning though, seeing as the trailer has that great inspirational hook of a quote at the end (and also because it looks like another good teen indie flick in the vein of juno, one of the few movies that made me proud, as opposed to embarassed, to be seen in hoodies).
