read between the lines
snapshots of events i am too lazy and not really in the mood to type or explain much tonight.yet i feel i need a distraction, a platform to release some creative output from the humdrum act of jobhunting. also, i'll probably forget about it if i don't put it down.... so, here are the tangible results of only three of my recent activities that i managed to take photos of, starting from most recent. i am not really a camera-toting person since the only cam i have now is a palm, and a palm can only do so much (furthermore i would have hell to pay for if i lost it), so the next best thing is to photograph what's left behind -- a card, receipt, etc. this two-faced hologram card is the result of watching potc's dead man's chest on the first day of its opening here - 13 july. my verdict: the first movie was better. my friend whom i went along with agrees. sure, this one was had some really funny slapstick humour moments courtesy of the bumbling jack sparrow, but it sure left a lot of unanswered questions and acted more like a setting for the 3rd movie. in that way i felt this 2nd movie can't stand alone for itself, and any movie that can't stand alone for itself is...lacking something. but, i did get to see jack davenport (the one keira's character was supposed to marry in the 1st movie) looking dirty, which is totally out-of-line with his usual clean self on the old tv series coupling and other movie appearances like the talented mr. ripley. and he still looks pretty ok despite the filth. heh. thanks to an a lazy afternoon and an online chat with emm-arr, i ended up going to see the dinosaur bones exhibition at singapore science centre. not many people know but when i was young i used to be so hung-up on dinosaurs. i even bought the whole 100-issue collection of the very popular dinosaurs magazine back then (thanks to grandma). i memorised almost every dinosaur's name, the facts related to it, how it looks like...i even considered being a paleontologist at some point in my childhood (oh those innocent days). but...money became an issue, other things like the computer came along and...that part of my life was boxed up and put aside. so of course i jumped at the chance to finally get a look at the bones...it turns out they were all casts. but still, it's the closest i'll probably ever get to looking at what had so enraptured me in my early years. they had a few t. rexes, there was a protoceratops though no triceratops (my favourite dinosaur of the time) an iguanadon and the rest, the names of which, through time, have escaped my memory already. sadly no one else seemed to share or understand my joy, not even the girl i made friends with who was working at the exhibition (we still had a lot to talk about since she had just finished jc and was leaving for an overseas uni while i was...well yeah). my mom had the worst reaction though: "but they're all dead what. wasting your money like that, going for these things." i find it hard to believe her favourite subject in school was history. i had been wanting to get the movie for a long time, but had forgotten to, and then i read the book by nick hornby some moons ago and it was sooo good that i started an all-out search for the movie here. it's the first book that's made me seriously laugh every few minutes in ages, resulting in annoyed glares in my direction, and i was so tempted to buy it after 8 hours and 2 days in the bookstore, but i didn't because of the price (price was fair enough, it was the average, but i was short on cash). but old movies have been out-of-stock in the pirate market here (yo, ho, ho) so i put it on hold. but then one day out of boredom i step into a video shop across the causeway and it so happens they are selling this for S$9.90 instead of the original price of S$19.90 because of the great singapore sale. what's more, this is an original (though sadly it wasn't imported so they didn't have extra pages to ogle at or anything). so buy it i did. have yet to watch it cos i'm saving it for a rainy day...or night, should i say. but most nights are filled with, let's all say it together...the humdrum act of jobhunting. |
